It's amazing to me with science how we look back and shake our heads with a healthy "No shit!" No one thought anything about the long term effects of large men slamming into each others noggins at high rates of speeds simply because there wasn't the science to look at it. Same for cigarettes..they were prescribed by some doctors in their heyday to combat stress..even in pregnant women. Then as science started to be able to see horrific effects of it, we were able to educate.
I feel like this is the same vein as that. My grandfather played college ball, with fucking thin cork for shoulder pads and a cotton padded leather hat. And his nose was mashed flat as fuck from playing football. He also was in WWII from France to Berlin..with more concussions along the way then I am sure he could have remembered.. And you know what..he suffered from small TIA's (strokes) as he got older that altered his mental status to the point of degrading his function and killing him. But back then the science wasn't there to look at the brain. Now as its becoming better and better, I really wonder what changes they will make to football as the results become more clear that these guys are destroying their brains....Comment

One would think that helmets could be made to a higher degree and incorporate the latest and greatest tech. Some sort of shock absorbent tech that could decrease the G's a great deal.Comment

i heard this on the radio yesterday apparently the disease gives the sufferers dementia and aggression. they said it could be related to the domestic violence etc that happens with nfl players. they referenced some guy that killed his wife and then himself apparently his brain was badly affected by it.
apparently it affects our rugby league and union players as well.Comment

Serious issues that are going to be interesting to see how they play out in the future of the sport. I've heard the NFL is bracing for numerous lawsuits.Comment
