      With the 5th highest tax rate in the world, and about 95% of the universities government owned, or public, I should fucking hope tuition is free.

      And the U.S. comes in at 53rd in the world in terms of taxation so you can get a reference point. Not saying German universities aren't great, but the German people as a whole pay taxes out the ass that would make us blush by comparison.

      One would hope with 770 billion dollars in tax revenue last year, (US collected 1.6 trillion, about double) the German government would be able to balance the books..but like every other government they overspent to the tune of a 23 billion dollars, not quite the 16 trillion we are wallowing in but significant as each year they collect more revenue and still manage to spend more. Like any government.

      So, with 80.5 million people Germany grabs half of the tax revenue that the US does-with 315 million people. They are a taxed population...school better be free so they can make some damn money.
