    Ditch big pharma's antibiotics

Since the 1940s, antibiotics have become the standard treatment for bacterial infections. Most believe that pharmaceutical antibiotics are a miracle "silver bullet" for infectious diseases and that antibiotics alone were responsible for curtailing the major life-threatening, infectious diseases plaguing humanity.

According to Thomas McKeown, MD, author of The Role of Medicine, "Deaths from common infections were declining long before effective medical intervention was possible." [1] View graphs here.

    Mutant Bacteria

In 1947, when penicillin was rolled out for mass production, the first bacterium resistant to it was soon discovered, Staphylococcus aureus. The fact is that antibiotics, even when used appropriately, do create mutant bacteria. [2]

In fact, the highest rates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus infections are correlated with the countries that prescribe the most antibiotics. In 2009, Norway had one of the lowest rates of hospital infections in the world.

Why? Approximately 30 years ago, Norway made a pivotal decision to reduce overall antibiotic use and prohibited stronger antibiotics from entering the country. [3]

    Weakened Immune System

Peter J. D'Adamo, ND, is a naturopathic physician and author known for his pioneering research on the interconnectedness of human blood groups, lifestyle, nutrition and health.

    Dr. D'Adamo explained,

"When you allow your body to go to war on its own terms, without antibiotic intervention, it develops not only a memory of specific antibodies to the current infection and any similar to it, but also the ability to fight more effectively the next time it is challenged or attacked."

In other words, the invaders are getting stronger, but our immune systems are less prepared to handle them. [4]

Antibiotics suppress the immune system, as opposed to merely assisting it to do its job more effectively. In fact, antibiotics "cut off immune response." They can reduce the level of infection, but they cannot eradicate it; only the immune system can do that. [5]

    Recurring Infections

Scientific research has revealed that those treated with antibiotics succumb to recurring infections more frequently than those who do not use antibiotics. For example, children with ear infections who are prescribed antibiotics routinely suffer from repeat infections. [6]

    Fungal and Bacterial Overgrowths

Fungal and bacterial overgrowths caused by antibiotics exude endotoxins (toxins produced within the body), which suppress the immune system. They destroy the "communication pathways between cells of the immune system"

ImmuneDisorders.Homestead.com explains,"Without these pathways in operation, immune cells don't attack. Healthy gut flora supports immune function but does not replace those communication pathways." [7]

    Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Repeated antibiotic use has been linked with chronic viral illness including chronic fatigue syndrome. [8]

    AIDS

AIDS research indicates that a risk factor for AIDS is an impaired immune response, which can be linked to a history of repeated antibiotic use. Perhaps it is no accident the that same group with the highest incidence of AIDS is also a group that uses more antibiotics than other groups in America. [8]

    Cancer Links

The BMJ reported that those who had taken six or more antibiotic prescriptions had a 1.5 greater risk of less common cancers compared with study participants who had the lowest antibiotic exposure. [9]

A 2002 Finish study found breast cancer risk accelerated with increased antibiotic exposure. [10]

A 2008 study by the International Journal of Cancer reported:

"Those who had taken 2-5 antibiotic prescriptions had a 27% increase in cancers compared to those who took none. Those who took six or more prescriptions had a 37% increase in cancers." [8]

Widespread, repetitive antibiotic use could permanently cause generational, deleterious changes to microbiota and the immune system. [11]

Classic case of throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Antibiotics are a critiical component in our fight against disease. The problem isn't antibiotics, the problem is the overuse of antibiotics. You don't react by not using antibiotics. You react by being selective at where to use antibiotics. Especially in the livestock industry which is where most antibiotics are used anyway.

You said it brother,ABUSE.And why are they being abused??? Because they are being OVER-PRESCRIBED.Which in turn is weakening the bodies immune system and causing people to get more sick.

Im talking about humans, not livestock though.LOL

        Actually agree with scrumhalf here

Rule 1 support your own immune system sp you don't get ill as often to begin with

Can the body truly fight off viruses entirely without antibiotics? Reason I ask is last year I had a couple horrible upper respiratory infections that I fought for over 2 weeks each time in an attempt to let my body defeat it and strengthen and familiarize my immune system to said virus. Only to grow increasingly ill thus being forced to turn to antibiotics.

It's not just about healing oneself though. How many of us can truly keep ourselves completely quarantined from the world so we don't spread illnesses to those that may have no chance of fighting it off without intervention.

Thats actually my point that you're agreeing with.

Building ones own immune system is the number one way to prevent illnesses and disease.By running to the doctor everytime you sneeze and getting loaded up on scripts is the exact opposite of how to build your bodies own defense system.

The abuse of antiboitics is what IS DIRECTLY contributing to people getting more sick than ever, not helping it.

Of course your body can fight off sicknesses and illness. This all comes down building up YOUR BODIES IMMUNE SYSTEM NATURALLY.Today people are being bred into popping a pill or taking a shot for everything.Every store or business you go into has hand sanitizer EVERYWHERE!! Hell how many people do you see walking around with hand sanitizer on their person or wet wipes??? Its crazy brother.HIDING from germs does not and WILL not protect you!! PERIOD!!! We live in a world with germs. The best and ONLY WAY IMHO to protect yourself from these germs is by building up a resistance to them.Which means you HAVE TO ALLOW YOUR BODY TO BE EXPOSED TO THEM!

Do you know how they get cures to diseases? They find the original carrier of the disease and create an antibody from that carriers dna.WHY?? Because that carrier has built up an immunity to the disease! Not by taking antibodies or getting a vaccination, their bodies DID IT NATURALLY.Its the same thing with us against ANY germ. You can build up an immunity to cyanide if you ingest it in a low enough dosage for a long enough period of time. Not my opinion, its medical fact, look it up.

The body is a miraculous thing and can overcome a boat load of things on its own and NATURALLY if its defense mechanism (YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM) is strong enough. You cant have this by taking a shit load of drugs. That only suppresses your immune system and weakens it.

                Thanks for the reply.

Just one more note,do I think are times when antibiotics are necessary?? Of course I do.

Do I think there are times when scripts are necessary? Of course I do.

My point with it all is ABUSING these things is what kills millions each year. Its not the occasional use that Im against, its the rampant abuse by people which is initiated and encouraged by too many doctors out there.

You are backpedalling here. Your article was all about how antibiotics are bad, not about how OVERUSE of antibiotics is bad. When challenged, you are taking that position that antibiotics are OK, it is the overuse that is bad. So what is it that you believe?

Also, the article had no references. Just referring to other websites is useless. Are there any controlled and blinded studies that have been published in peer-reviewed journals that back up the claims made?

he has no idea what he is saying scrum but I will have to agree with him on doctors over scripting everything. walk in the doc office the fucker writes a script before you tell him the problem, lol
well asks for insurance card the says hi then writes script

I agree about the over prescription of antibiotics. It is a real problem that is causing drug-resistant strains of bacteria. But the article is about how antibiotics are bad. Which is just plain wrong. The median life expectancy at the turn of the 20th century was about 45 years. It is almost 80 now. By far the biggest reason for this is antibiotics. Anyone who says antibiotics are bad is just ignorant.
