I decided to research why the leaves don't seem to break down for me. I found that I have too many leaves and it doesn't work well in the winter either.
Use caution, however. You want to avoid leaving a thick layer of leaves on the lawn, which can increase the chance for turf fungal diseases or block out too much sunlight, essentially smothering the grass. According to The Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association, if a layer of leaves greater than one-fourth to three-eights inch builds up on your lawn at one time, it's time to think about bagging them. In addition, mulching doesn't work as well for pine needles; they don't break down easily into the soil.

When I have raked them, I use my 96 gallon yard waste bin. Fill that about 6 times during the fall season, plus I buy and use around 30 paper yard waste bags I buy at home depot. http://www.google.com/shopping/produ...FUE0aQodLjUAdA

Been pretty decent for mid october here in ohio. About like Chicago's weather. Pretty much high 50's to mid 60's every day for the last week and lots of sun. Leaves have been changing for a long time now but most are still on the trees which is surprising. Supposed to be 74 on monday so im not complaining :)
