  • Chicken Pox Outbreak Parties

    What the fuck?!?

My wife was watching some whack show on Bravo and these anti vax nuts get their infants and toddlers together with an individual with the pox in an attempt to contract the disease and trigger the bodies natural defenses as opposed to getting a vaccination.

Plenty of wackos on both sides of this cause my friend.

Either side that go to such extremes should be exterminated.

You keep creating these false dichotomies. There aren't two equal sides to this discussion. It's like the round earth and flat earth theories. It's like evolution and creationism. One side is right and the other is wrong. I don't know why you keep dragging the vax debate like it was a real debate between two equally legitimate theories.

I have heard about chicken pox parties since I was a child, before a vaccine existed in the US.

Chicken pox is one of the earliest memories that I can recall. I had to be around 4 or 5 and I remember it being awful.

They weren't parties but when I was growing up anytime a family member or friend got chicken pox my parents would make sure we played with them during that time. I didn't end up getting chicken pox until I was 13 and it was after a weekend vacation out of state.

These kinds of "parties" are a reckless case of child endangerment. I cannot fathom how someone could subject their child to potentially deadly pathogens from strangers, as Dr. David Gorski opines here. I agree completely.

That is what bothers me. If an adult wants to go lick some pox pustules, have at it, but subjecting children intentionally is short of torture.

I don't know the recent information well, but our parents did it because of it being said to be so much worse to get it as an adult. No doubt this plays into there stupidity.

Yes, there was some rationale for this in the past, but with a vaccine available, any such thing today is unconscionable.
