  • To buy or to rent

I generally think with real estate it's best to own if you can afford it, but perhaps that's a British obsession.

what I am coming round to is leasing a car, I just wish I could get short term deals

With a home buy. With a car lease. There really isn't any benefit to buying a car.

The only reason you wouldn't lease is if you drive over the 12-15k mile per year limit.

I'm in the position where I'm looking to buy a newer one for say £10k

but it's still Gonna be 6-7 years old.

If I want to be driving a new car, leasing is the only practical option

I know my next vehicle is gonna be a lease. Shit, you dont have to worry about tires, brakes, exhaust, or anything other than changing the oil and putting gas in it. The depreciation on the vast majority of cars/trucks is too much to justify buying a brand new one. I usually start getting bored with what im driving after a couple years anyhow, so leasing makes perfect sense. You always have a new vehicle, theres no maintenace to worry about, and your payments stay in a reasonable range. Win win IMO...

You do have to worry about tires and break pads. I just got a nail right on the wall edge of my tire yesterday. Can't be patched. I also have an awd so I can't replace just one tire. Had to spend $900 to replace all tires with only 30% wear in them.

Yeah i guess in certain situations you do. I meant because of normal wear. I dont see how you would have to pay for breaks though. Unless you are leasing something used that already has quite a few miles on it

Tires and breaks basically need to have a certain amount left on them when you turn it in. I didn't know about all tires needing to be close in wear to not burn up the all wheel drive transmission. So that did come as a bit of a shock going into it thinking the max I would need to spend would be about $250.

I don't know if it's the awd or the 18in wheels or a combination of both but I really like how it feels in the snow. Almost as if the snow didn't exist in the road. I will need to do a lot more research on that for the next car.

Go buy some used tires with a minimum requires thread. I did that with one of my old leases. 90 bucks and I was out the door with two tires.

If I need to replace them again when I turn it in 2 years from now, absolutely. I kept the three tires that were still good.
