I was reading his Wikipedia page and it says he became black belt in 2013 or whatever, long after he won all kinds of championships. That was interesting to me, because I read about how some kid in high school, or some TV news woman here in PDX, is a black belt in taekwondo. Seems like for these strip mall martial arts that you can sign you kid up for, a black belt means something different from BJJ.

Completely different in BJJ. Some BJJ Mcdojos do exist, but they are few and far between.

You can also easily tell the skill of your opponent when rolling. I don't care about belt color, it all shows when you get out on the mat.

It varies greatly by school, but it's not a joke for all taekwondo. Unfortunately taekwondo has been flooded with schools that just keep advancing kids every month or faster to bring in more money.
