Basically Greece economy hit the skids worse than many others in Europe. Europe political *corporate) banking system said " Hey I know, we will help you out with some cash(put you in shit loads of debt), if you agree to some cost cutting nearest, one being that you sack half of your public sector.
So they have huge unemployment and apart from tourism, not much going on and not much hope of paying the debts, only borrowing more, you can guess where that's headed...
This new political party is saying it will tell European lenders to fuck off and not pay the debt.
In principle this could see them ejected from Europe but I doubt this will happen. Greece lies next to Turkey which is next to SYRIA. Strategically Europe will want to keep them.
In addition, USA has much strategic military stationed in Greece so they may well have a keen eye on this. Syriza
