That's crazy. Anyone know if all volcanos do that or something special about this one.
Any volcano that produces rocks and dust that can get charged with static electricity as they get ejected can do this. I can't remember - it's called a dirty storm or something like that.
Now, that is a beautiful shot. If it is HDR, it is blended beautifully to get both the flower and the sky right. You can't shoot into a sunset without silhouetting the flower, so either it is a blended shot, or (more likely) the photographer exposed for the sky and used a flash to illuminate the flower. Either way, very well done.
