Season opened last weekend. been raining and crappy hunting conditions. havent heard much gobbling... tues(yesterday) I took a few hours off in am to try um. Before daylight Im 1/2 mile into the swamps dark as fuck cant see shit..tripped and stumbled my way thru:agreed:..about 0700 I hear a faint gobble off to the east..I head that way. As I get closer it sounds like 3 or 4 birds hitting it pretty hard. I continue east...
As I close the distance the swamp is really getting wet and I know can tell the birds are on the other side of a big creek. I have crossed it before but never with this much water. I go Up and down the creek about 250 yds each way looking for a downed tree or someplace that looks fordable...Nothing... the birds are now on the ground and just Hammering it with gobbles.
Fuck it..Im going... I put my phone and wallet in my brest pockets of shirt..take off turkey vest and hold it with my shotgun over my head in one arm and start wading in. Soon Im over my hip boots and they are filled with water, Im not worried as Ive crossed it before and its never been higher then my chest. next two steps Im waist deep then Kersplash...Im swimming for it..Shit..no bottom. Im sicssor kicking across the stream holding vest and gun up out of the water..hip boots are full and heavy..current is pulling me sideways...Gotta love this shit!!:thumb:
I make it across about 15 yds further down stream then where I started due to the current and Im like..FUCK my phone... needless to say..its DONE!!.. Oh well..Birds are still gobbling. I take off hip boots and empty them, slip um back on, put on vest and start making my way to the birds...Im soaked to my neck.
I get set up about 150 yds from the gobbeling..Hit the call and get an Immeadiate response of severl Birds screaming at me..Its ON!!!..... A few mins go by and I catch movement. I get the shotgun positioned and am watching 5 birds comming in..3 ate full strut....but somethings wrong here....They are all Jakes!!
( young gobblers) they close the distance to 35 yds. At one point I had 3 heads lined up..coulda been tagged out with one shot. I put the safety back on and just watched the show untill they got bored and slipped back into the swamp. never pulled the trigger. Basterds..:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Anywho..went to verizon got a new phone with an upgrade I was due over a year ago... went with the LG G3... seems pretty bad ass and Im sure will be a good one. Im very impressed with the the screen its like HD TV for christ sake...
So 248 bucks later Im all upgraded..turkeys 3 me 0 and down 248 bucks...:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
