Morel mushrooms are up by me

Just another mushroom with a unique flavor. Popular to add mushroom to a finer dish. A lot of times combined with other wild mushrooms.

One of my chef instructors loved going mushroom hunting here in PA and kept his spots a secret. I guess there is some good variety here. He had this picture of morels he found that went from the base of his palm to the tip of his fingers.

Sounds interesting and can really get you some great tasting mushrooms. I am just to afraid of accidentally picking the wrong kind and making myself sick. So I just buy commercial. That's what most restaurants do.

I would love to go find a couple and cook them in some butter with some salt and pepper. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Maybe one day I can start hunting them.

Morel mushrooms are the only mushrooms to look like they do around me in Illinois, so there is no risk of finding the wrong mushroom. If you don't know when to look just do a Google search for, morel mushrooms (your state), and you can check out the forums to see if they are popping up by you. As far as where to go, just go to a state or national park and start looking in the timber.
