Very sad day and like many motor race incidents it happens so fast.

It was caused by the differential in breaks IMO

lol @ strapping drum brakes to a 190mph merc. that merc was so futuristic for the time yet so far behind in brake development.

really though the major cause IMO was the track itself. the pitlane was right on the main straight when all the cars are full throttle. you have people braking and trying to get to the pit while others are flat out. on top of that, there is a slight right bank and a narrowing of the track right at the point where it needs to be wide as possible.
