Silverstone's best WEC LMP1-Hybrid qualifying lap of 1:39.534 went to Porsche's fearsome 919 Hybrid in early April, and Lewis Hamilton followed in early July with a declarative 1:32.248, carving 7.286 sec from the Porsche with his Mercedes F1 W06. Of all the tracks F1 and the WEC share, Silverstone has given us the clearest picture of how their cars perform in comparable settings, and with that baseline in mind, understanding how the 7.2-second gap is generated is where the fun starts.
