  • History made: 2 women graduate from Army Ranger course

Wondering what you guys who served think about this...

165 men and two women started the course, 94 mena and the two women finished. So the women did better than more than 70 men. Thats' pretty impressive as long as the criteria were the same and based on the article it seems they were.

During the course, students learn how to operate in three different environments: woodlands in Fort Benning, Georgia, mountainous terrain in Dahlonega, Georgia, and coastal swamp in Eglin AFB, Florida. Highlights of the course include a physical fitness test consisting of 49 push-ups, 59 sit-ups, a five mile run in 40 minutes, and six chin-ups; a swim test; a land navigation test; a 12-mile foot march in three hours; several obstacle courses; four days of military mountaineering; three parachute jumps; four air assaults on helicopters; multiple rubber boat movements; and 27 days of mock combat patrols.

On Aug. 1, 2015, 165 men and two women began the challenging training in the coastal swamps of Eglin AFB, Florida. Additionally, Ranger students selected to recycle the Swamp Phase will start the phase again on Saturday, August 29, 2015.

I think women in a combat scenario are more of a liability than an asset. Simple because of the horrors that can happen to a woman in a captive scenario and the natural instinct of a man to protect our avenge women.

There are women out there more capable than summer men but to me that's not the issue.

Yeah, front line combat opens up some real issues, but I was just commenting on the physical and mental achievement of getting a Ranger tab as a woman.

I think its bad ass that they have completed the course. I give them all the credit deserved. I also Mirror BLM's point about serving up front. I just know the feeling men have towards it from those I served with.

Well guys, Griest kicked it up another notch and has become the first female infantry officer. Respect!

Woman who earned a U.S. Army Ranger tab has smashed another barrier and made history again

Smart move on her part..if she even half ass does a good Job she will be promoted on her first look every time now. She will fly thru the ranks and be a field grade officer in no time. That will turn into a job where she can then work on training and doctrine to get her a star and move more women fwd in combat arms. Congrats to her... Having said that... I'm old school.. I don't think its a great Idea. But times are changing..its not my Army any more... Its the new generations.. I will always be proud to fly the Red and White of the Cavalry until I am no more, but Im afraid like the old song goes..the old grey mare just aint what she used to be..aint what she used to be...aint what she used to be.......
