I gotta tell ya, there is something off about the "boyfriend" of the girl killed. Anyone see him in interviews or see what he types? He's trying way to hard to let people know they had a secret love. Even typed something along the lines of "we had a love that burned white hot".. WTF?

The father is on CNN 24 hours after his daughter was killed. What normal human being would or could do that? I would be in a deep depressive state and hopefully surrounded by family. I couldn't and wouldn't be yapping about gun laws on TV.

Strange how it plays out so quickly.

Shooter's manifesto confirms he was a racist wackjob, yet the government media refuses to jump on that train. Government and media, dividing this country since its inception.

That fame aspect makes sense. I'd add to that the media exposure of these adds to the problem by making them "famous". If the media didn't spend so much time practically glamourizing these instances they wouldn't get what they seek. I mean they spend weeks talking about each case. Surprised the article made no mention of the media factor.

I think helplessness is a large contributor as well. We are a country now of the powerful controlling everything, using people then discarding them, and never getting in trouble for just about anything.

The high stress environment to be workaholics to make it in life combined with the helpless feeling is a perfect combination to break people.

                  good points, agree with both.

What's frustrating is that there is an answer out there. There is some kind of solution that would fix this. What that solution is I'm not sure. I joke about banning guns and I do think that getting a gun should be much harder then it is. BUT I also realize that guns alone are not the issue, its the mental state and thought process that seems to becoming more common in America that needs to be addressed.

Well put. I think a big problem is kids are taught WHAT to think but not really taught HOW to think. On top you have a growingly conceited society that never learns how to lose in life so repeated loses with no lesson on the value that can bring to a more productive future leads to mental instability. I'm sure there are countless things we could name here and I bet a majority of these shooters are either just down right wackos or a perfect storm brought on by a culmination of prior events in their lives that they have been unable to cope with. I'd really like to see some form of psychological development class being mandatory somewhere between middle school and high school.

agree. this goes along with the bully discussion in a way.

it used to be a way of life that kids got bullied in school. it taught valuable lessons and was healthy up to a point. it wasn't such a big deal. now though it's been made into this horrible tragedy that little johnny got a black eye. I'm not saying we should tolerate bullying, I'm saying lets keep things in perspective and not make it such a huge deal. by making it such a huge deal I think it teaches a child that they are untouchable and if they ever are threatened in any way their mind reacts in a way that it would not have in the 1950's when bullying was "just something that happens". bit of a rant but i believe there is an important point there.

Lol. I wish politicians would put this much effort into solutions. It's like they all have a text book with key words to match and a law to propose that goes with it that offers no real solution to the problems. I mean it isn't like this stuff took weeks to think about.

We need a bit more of what was going on in America after WW2. Things got done in a smart and efficient way. The general feeling in America was that things were good and we have a healthy future. Nowadays the general feeling from the media and the general public is that "this country has gone to shit". In some ways that may be true. But I refuse to look at it like that. This is still a great country with so many things to offer. People have just gotten so used to a certain way of life that we've become complainers about everything. Go spend a year in a place like india and then come back to america and tell me how much this country has gone to shit.. lol.

No doubt. I try to tell my kids about that when they complain about meaningless problems. Starving children in Africa with flys on their eyes would do anything for those green beans lol.
