Holy Fuck, wtf is going on in this country. I feel like there are only a handful of people who use logic and reason anymore.

Well said and I can agree with that.

BUT. I would disagree that "they are winning". If by some remote chance that this was done on purpose to stir up some kind of race/religious war then it has completely backfired in their face. This kid has been showered by love and support.

was talking in general..about the cause and reaction this brought on...not it in itself.

I must admit, it does sound like he's being coached by someone on what to say at this point. When a 14 year old talks about wanting his "humility" back I have to raise an eyebrow just a little bit. I don't think anything was planned but I'm pretty sure the father or someone else from the family is taking a little bit of an opportunity to put some words in the boys mouth to push a particular agenda. You know God damn well he is by no means humiliated. He may have been at the time but the public response has fixed that. The only ones humiliated at this point are the ignorant officials and teacher for how they handled the situation.

I would prefer that kid just say "I would like my engineering project back, it's mine and I've done nothing wrong". That sounds genuine.

"The 14-year-old Texas freshman who was arrested and suspended from school for three days for bringing his homemade digital clock to school said Thursday that he wants it back.

"The clock is still in the custody of the police. I want it back with my humility," Ahmed Mohamed said on Good Morning America."

It is the stupidest article ever. It is infuriatingly, maddeningly stupid. The guy just doesn't get it.

Ahmed didn't get invited to the WH, or didn't get props from Zuckerberg and Google, or asked to visit MIT, or offered an internship at NASA in a couple of years, because he was brown skinned. HE GOT ALL FO THIS BECAUSE HE DID SOMETHING COOL IN STEM AND GOT SLAPPED DOWN FOR IT!!!

How stupid does one have to be to not get that? Here we are as a nation, wringing our hands because the perception is that the Koreans and the Japanese and everyone else are kicking our asses in STEM fields and when a kid did something cool, he got put in shackles for it. Thats what got everyone's attention!!!! The kid who bit his pop tart into a gun shape didn't deserve to get into trouble either, no question. But he didn't get an invite to all these places because it had nothing to do with science, which was the theme of all the responses from everyone, if the writer of this article had cared to notice.

But it is the NY Post. What a rag that is. Anyone expecting logic from that POS is only marginally less stupid than the people writing for it.

                        and let me add:

Anyone who thinks old fashiopned bigotry had nothing to with the way Ahmed was treated is just being delusional. One only has to look at the history of the shithole town that this happened in, and the POS mayor and her track record of ignorance and bigotry.

I pity the other kids that are stuck in that situation, surrounded by adults who are stupid, ignorant and seem to have time traveled from the pre-Civil Rights era. Mark my words - these are the people who will find themselves completely unable to function in society in the next 50 years. The world is shrinking, guys. I work in high tech as many of you know, and we hire the best people from US universities. I have people from every continent on the globe working for me. That's the beauty of the language of science and mathematics - the equations are the same in every language, on every continent. And brainpower is brainpower, no matter what the shape and color of the body carrying it around. It's a knowledge based economy guys, and the Internet has made it so distance is immaterial. And if people are too stupid, too ignorant, too bigoted to realize it, they will find themselves left out in the cold, rapidly descending into third world status.

Articles like these irritate the hell out of me because of one reason.

We should all strive to build a better society, be better ourselves, etc. but we don't always do. And situations like these, shitty as they may be, come by every so oten. But they are also teaching moments. They are opportunities for us to step back, learn something, better ourselves a little, perhaps show a little of the wonderful side of humanity and collectively be better off for it.

But the teaching moment seems to have completely passed osme people by. And that is as much of a tragedy as the original incident.
