  • Marijuana Use Doubles in U.S., But So Do Problems

Marijuana use has more than doubled in the U.S. since the beginning of the century — but so have problems for users, including addiction, researchers reported Wednesday.

They found 9.5 percent of U.S. adults used marijuana in 2013, up from 4.1 percent in 2001-2002.

More Americans than ever approve of marijuana use. Just this week, a new Gallup survey showed that 58 percent of Americans favor the legalization of cannabis — the highest number ever.

Not sure how much of a problem Marijuana can be other than laziness but in my area Heroin use has increased significantly and it is causing a lot of problems. Overdoses have tripled. Theft to support these habits has gone through the roof. Kids have getting killed from use as well as parents neglect by being so stoned babies are dying in cribs. Rehab facilities are packed.

I get that people should be able to do whatever they want to their bodies but when a habit like that affects other people then I have a problem with it.

I wouldnt much care either way if marijuana was legal or not but if it is it needs to be done at a federal level not states. Make it Legal federally then states chose to make it illegal or legal on their own accord but you can't have states making it legal while still being illegal federally. Federal government trumps states and by choosing not to enforce this we are no longer a nation of laws.

Weed doesn't make me tired at all, it calms me down. But far from being lazy; I actually enjoy doing stuff while I've smoked. I've even been known to smoke before I roll, but then again many of us have before a roll. We're more relaxed and smooth on transitions and not rushing.

You said yourself you don't smoke to get high but just enough to take the edge off. When I used to smoke I did it to get high and I was worthless to society along with everyone of the people I used to do it with whom I no longer associate with.

We had a 6 foot water bong we smoked out of when I was a kid. lol It would paralyze you after you cleared it. Haven't touched weed since my early 20's and have no desire to ever again.

Holy shit! I miss the feeling but would never do it again either. Regardless of legality I'm subject to random DOT screenings and cannot have it in my system. Plus I like being able to remember where I put my keys.

I despise the feeling of not being in "control" of my body. I don't even like to be drunk. I can't understand the attraction to some of the shit out there.

Last night I went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. One of the haunted houses was 3D and you walked through what was supposed to like going down the rabbit hole. It was the weirdest thing ever. If that is what acid is like, I can not understand the appeal!!

Yea I don't get drunk ever. I have one glass of something to take the edge off and get that calm warm feeling. I never drink enough to have the room spinning or shit like that.

I've been high before, many many years ago. It's like drinking, some will do it until they're drunk; just like weed...most will or do it to get high. I enjoy the calm effect it has.

I don't get it either. Even when I smoke, I'm perfectly in good control of my body. But that's it, no other stuff for me.

I was always fine if I only smoked or only drank, when I did both my articulation went out the window, nobody can understand me.

That "calm" feeling is being high. It is cool of you want to smoke, but don't be odd and say that you don't get high.

Marijuana use may have remained steady, more people may just be more open to admitting it now that some of the stigma has faded.

I'll take a smoker over a drinker any day.

I laugh about that as well. Trying to split hairs and label the feeling differently based on intention. Not condemning marijuana use by any means.

Drunk or buzzed, stoned or high. Hmmmmmm...ok so I'm high, yep that's fine with me. You get my point I'm sure of it.
