Of Camping and hunting. A buddie and I are going to Ossabaw island on a lottery type management hunt. Ive fished all around the island and beached on it with boats but inland is restricted. lots of History on the island. I get 2 free deer tags and I may take a hog if the oppertunity presents itself. the island is supposed to be beautiful and untouched. Ill take pics and post up when I return.

Ossabaw island..off the coast of georgia...

So is the "inland" still restricted to you? Or now that you won this trip, are you allowed to tour everything too?

Either sex..two free deer tags. I have been told the deer on the islands are VERY SMALL..a large mature 4.5 year old buck will be in the 100 lb range live weight..:panic:

Sounds like a blast man! Wonder why the deer are smaller. you would think there would be some big deer and racks there since it is not open to hunt for the public.

They keep the steroids out of the park. All natural deer.

Stuck on an island in the deep south..inter breeding I would assume. Plus here on the mainland on the coast we have the smallest deer in the state.

Island dwarfism. Pretty common evolutionary response to limited resources, and especially in herbivores, a relative lack of predators means that smaller size is not a disadvantage any more. Happens all the time all over the world.

That's right, didn't they find that group of bipedal pre homo sapien bones on some island a few years ago that were all very small and short, even as adults? Wish I could remember where it was and what they called them.

It was on the island of Flores in Indonesia. Homo Floresiensis... the Hobbit people.
