What do you want scientists to do, look for a gene for intelligence? There is almost certainly no specific gene for intelligence. We dont' even know what intelligence is and how it is manifested in the physical brain. We know it is not brain size. What else is it? Something about the way the neurons are connected? About some chemicals in the brain? Nobody knows. There is probably a combination of genes that controls a host of brain functions that results in how it functions, i.e. more intelligence. I am sure it will be figured out over time, as human genetic research is a hot field.

I think we can dumb it down a bit and think of it as a computer processor. It is my belief that certain races have a core i7 while others get by on a pentium 4...

I don't mean the individual aspect either. I mean entire groups.

Excuse me? I thought that this was a rare thread over here, where a rational dialog on science can take place. I guess I was mistaken. I should have known better.

Also, on the subject of genetics and how it relates to the brain. Where do you think you inherited the trait of living through your 19 year old self? Do you think its a brain trick you've inherited to enable you to ignore the fact that your now a 40 year old turd?

This is an interesting topic. There is a good book pertaining to this subject matter by Stephen Molnar called "Human Variation Races, Types and Ethnic Groups. While there are clear genetic differences between races across the board that this book delves into intelligence is also touched on and it is one of the most difficult to explain. Yes there are IQ differences between races however the inheritance of mental ability is not so clear.

Moving children from a deprived environment to an improved one can boost IQ 20-30 points. In addition the socioeconomic status of the parents greatly effects IQ performance. Also there is a high correlation between performance and quality of education. Health factors also have an influence. Total population Variation is due to both genotypes and environment and can be expressed mathematically.
Variation in phenotype (Vp) = variance in genotypes (Vg) + variance in environment (Ve). Heritability (H2) then is that proportion of varience owing to genotypic varience. H2= Vg/(Vg+Ve).

Basically you can conclude that a phenotypic varience within a population does not tell us about the genetic component of the individual but rather to genes under environmental circumstances. This book has very detailed, complex explanation of all the differences across the board but intelligence is so effected by environment that the same conclusion that can be made about say the sickel cell trait can't be made about intelligence.

This is digging way back in my studies of anthropology.

I like to try and keep things simple when possible. There is physical genetic trait differences between races. We can all agree on that correct? Well, lets not forget that the brain itself is a physical object. I don't think it's ridiculous to surmise the way a brain works also varies among races.

Take for example a pit bull. You can raise them with love, care, and zero violence yet they are more likely to fight another dog when challenged compared to lets say a golden retriever. This is not a physical genetic difference, this is a mental difference due to genetics via breeding. Nothing at all to do with environmental factors.
