The question is why? What is the benefit or advantage? Evolution is natures way of improving upon itself and adapting to it's environment. What is so different about Europe compared to say china? Why do Europeans look so much different than Asians when in many cases the climate and environment is actually very similar. Why is eye shape so different? What is the advantage or disadvantage?

For me, evolution and genetics is always made simpler when we think about the dog world. It's evolution sped up so it's easier for the mind to comprehend. So many behavioral and physical differences evolved from a single source. The fact that you can get a chihuahua and a St.Bernard from a wolf is just nuts when you really think about it. Obviously these changes would never have occurred if not for human intervention but it's still amazing to see an in your face real world study on genetics and all the possibilities for change.

What they didn't mention was light skin likely was also been a sexually attractive feature for the gene line to continue and spread as it did.
