  • George Hotz aka GeoHot vs. Elon Musk

This kid, known for being the first to hack the iPhone and pPS3, is growing up and moving from hacking devices to creating in the field of AI. No University was a challenge for him nor were leading edge tech companies so he is on his own. He continues to show how brilliant he is in his next project as he turns down potential millions of dollars for the spirit of technology to beat Elon Musk in self driving technology and beyond. Good read right here.

Great article, thanks for sharing! This is the kind of stuff that I love about America - the crazy guys that take a chance through the courage of their conviction and make something fantastic happen.

I remember when he first jailbroke/carrier-unlocked the iPhone. I think he was pretty young then, like 17 or 18. I knew we would hear of him again soon.

I love his quotes... agree completely with him:

"His desire to have AI take over so many jobs stems partly from a near-religious belief in the power and ultimate purpose of technology. “Technology isn’t good or bad,” he says. “There are upsides like nuclear power and downsides like nuclear bombs. Technology is what we make of it. There’s a chance that AI might kill us all, but what we know is that if you’re on the other side of technology, you lose. Betting on technology is always the correct bet.

Hotz wants to build a reputation as a maker of the most profound products in the world—things that forever change how people live. “I don’t care about money,” he says. “I want power. Not power over people, but power over nature and the destiny of technology. I just want to know how it all works.”

        Awesome!

Good stuff. Trait of many geniuses. Taking things apart and putting them together to understand how they work. A constant desire to understand the inner workings of all things. This guy should be working for JPL or LHC to further our understanding of the world and beyond.

I don't see why Tesla is getting butthurt about some guy claiming that he has come up with something in his garage that nobody else has. Not sure why they feel the need to respond to Hotz. Makes them smaller in my opinion.

Yeah I don't know. Maybe they feel threatened knowing the clout Hotz carries with the tech industry. I'm guessing it is merely a response from so much mention of Tesla in the article but I agree that a "no comment" would have been better on their part.

Exactly. And they should have said, " Good luck to Hotz. Entrepreneurs are what makes America great. Now, here's when OUR products are coming on the market."

Musk did the same thing when Jeff bazos announced his Rocket like a month ago. He felt the need to release a statement saying how its inferior. Musk is sensitive.

You know now that you mention it I recall reading a recent article where Musk was quoted as saying the employees from Google and Apple etc are former employees of his that weren't good enough. He must have some kind of superiority complex.

Yea I'm sure he's feeling the heat. All the car companies with billions are now doing the same things he's been doing for years. They may be able to catch up quick.
