I think khrushchev was quietly more socialist than communist in ideal.
But the point is all systems sound great in theory and it's inherent that there will be some slippage in practice.
At the end of the day most people are concerned with self but I certainly think we care too much for material crap.

Whatever system it needs some counter measures to either keep control, or give some slack; if it's socialist or communist it's inherently very controlled top down, but a black market / secondary under market is essential to provide slack, especially in times of economic downturn.
On the other hand, if it's capitalist, it's almost bottom up in terms of industry and so the I dusty needs some form of regulation to protect civil rights.
Sometimes the contradictions in each system are comical. The west is generally ostensibly democracy with capitalism allowed to run but in the background the government is tightening the reins on us more and more to strangle out the lesse faire and cash markets. I'm all for capitalism but when corporations start raping people government has to step in and control things a little.
You shouldn't be able to charge 800 bucks a pill for a headache or four times more for gasoline. When you are already making 6 billion dollar profit every quarter you shouldn't start making 8 billion by just rising the prices.
People are picketing for minimum wage increase. For what? So everything I purchase can get more expensive? Because now companies are paying their employees more and making less profit.
Make my money worth more, bring the buying power back. I don't care if I make 100 bucks an hour, if I have to pay 200 bucks for a loaf of bread it doesn't do me any good.
And what essentially the governments job is. I don't care what you call it but I call the government doing it's job.
