This is bigger news then most people understand.

The way this AI is winning is scary. It's calculating moves that a human would never make and it's still winning. That means it thinks in a way that humans simply aren't capable.

This type of AI was not supposed to be around for another 10 years. This is a huge leap and a scary one in Artificial Intelligence.

Further more, the software engineers and mathematicians that built Deepmind don't actually know exactly how it's making its decisions. Much like a human mind, we have an understanding of something but we don't actually know whats going on deep inside.

This to me is scary. It's very early days in Artificial Intelligence yet we are already making something capable of making it's own choices that even the people who built it don't understand.
