  • Good work out sat..BBQ

So with next weekend Turkey season opener..I went out to listen for a few Gobbling sat am. I took my 12 GA. Slug gun along figuring I could slip around and maybe get some BBQ..

Didn't take long... saw this nice Boar at about 60 yds rooting in the swamp bottom, so I checked the wind and started slipping.. When he had his head down I would slip a bit closer,,using the brush and tree trunks between us as concealment.. head up..stop..head down..one or two steps... Finally closed the distance to about 25 yds. I waited for a nice broad side shot, slipped off the safety lined up the sights and sent a 250 grain SST slug on its way. About the time I felt the recoil he went straight down lights out!:thumb:

Then the drag started..I had to pull him about 1/2 mile to the nearest road, then walked about a mile around to the truck so I could load him up.

nose off one side and feet off the other of the tailgate..Pretty good boar. He done fucked up, but his contribution will be appericated for some summer BBQ's:laugh::grin:

The state of lllinois made boar hunting illegal because some people were purposely releasing pigs so they would become feral and they could be hunted. How does a wild boar taste compared to farm raised pig?

Is your palate truly refined enough to appreciate the nuances of the hogs in question? Surely there must exist some slight taste differences due a slight diet change among various species of piggyphilakis oinkeralis.

I would think there would be a slight difference in taste. Like deer that are corn fed compared to wild deer. There is a difference but never had wild hog before.

I would have to agree with you on that Chadd, but honestly..when you smoke/ crock pot a roast or make sausage out of a hog...I cant tell the difference. I Have killed several hundred of them I would imagine, so maybe I'm biased..

You have saved a lot on grocery bills. Do you skin them or de-hair them?

First pic doesn't do justice to its size like the second one. Nice size boar!
