I get a turkey every time I go look for one. The stores are good at keeping them stocked like that.

I know. The stores are stocked with fish, but I still like fishing. I catch and release though. Don't care to clean them. :)

I fish every now and then but I don't catch. I haven't a clue what I'm doing. Never had anyone to show me the ropes.

You just need to decide what to fish for mostly. Just for fun if you don't care what you catch, some hotdog pieces or corn will catch something. There is usually something that will like worms to, but that isn't as simple as just throwing some corn or hotdog on a hook. Still simple though.

Another common mistake is using to large of a hook. You aren't going to be catching 10+ lb fish until you get more into unless you are just really lucky. Think about the fish and if it can get its mouth around the hook. If not it's just going to keep nipping at the bait but never get hooked. And use a bobber. It will help you learn what a fish feels like versus water movement and help you avoid getting caught on the bottom.

I think my biggest problem is not knowing how deep to go and using fake bait. Fishing at the wrong time and location doesn't help either.

Could it be that the turkeys are simply smarter than you? :D

I took my daughter to a fish hatchery last year. It's definitely cheating! lol But some monster rainbow trout. And the best part is they will clean, debone, and fillet it for you.

Yea, fake bait is about making it look alive. Not so easy. Don't worry about fishing the bottom or using fake bait until you are fishing for something specific and know how to use it.
