I've had it since 2007,.it's old but has 30 gigs of memories of my son malachi from being born and also private pics and videos of both family and personal stuff.

So I get this error the other day as i wanted to just pull up some pics of malachi. I get this error, wtf.

I kinda googled it because I've been busy, and if I recall, it has something to do with an update virus from QuickTime? I mention this because the last time I usedy laptop and it worked fine, somehow the auto download did the QuickTime download.

Suggestions? I can't log in and if I need to, I'll bring it in to a shop.

Time to upgrade for sure. I would take it somewhere legit for data recovery if you aren't able to fix it. Get an external drive for the data and get pictures loaded up to the cloud if you want.
    Good luck.

Well not gonna upgrade because I have no need for one, just keep this hunker around because of all the pics and stuff...so I guess you don't have any suggestions for this fix other than a pro right?

I could work on it if it was in my possession, no way to fix remotely. Sorry.

I wouldn't keep a 9 year old disc drive around for storage. You really need to get the data extracted ASAP if you want to keep it. A 9 year old platter drive running Vista, it is a recipe for disaster.

        External drive-$50-100

But because of the way it's in now, I obviously need to have someone who knows their shit and external it for me? I've got a few externals, I'll grab one.

The data recovery guys will be excited. :thumb:

Sorry that I don't have more to offer. I haven't worked on a vista machine in a long time. I would need some serious time messing around with that thing to have any idea of how to attempt to fix it.

Are you near a college? I would find some computer science nerd that needs some extra cash.

                    Not this one, no.

I've just left it alone, never thought of it. Guess just wanted to save a trip to a tech, rather fix if i can. I hate how they will see everything, nothing to hide but definitely have some.private stuff that I'd rather not show...

No prob. Basically what you're doing is taking the backup copy of your profile and using the backup, but you have to get into your laptop through safe mode to do it. It's straight forward. I just fixed a PC last week doing this.
