      You wouldn't make that comment if you knew the desperate circumstances and grinding poverty that drives the choices that these people make. Official corruption and mismanagement on a gigantic level is the root cause, and it prevents people from living with the basic dignity that everyone deserves.

      I can talk more about it if anyone is interested, but the reality is a lot more nuanced that it appears to western eyes.

        The Indians that I have interacted with in the US are usually smart people. I guess I don't understand why some "peoples" seem to always be down and out. I feel like it's in part an excuse to say "the government is corrupt". I don't doubt the corruption but at some point over the decades isn't it up to the people to change things? Why is it that so many western nations are so far advanced? Why have we been able to seemingly overcome corruption and all the bad things about government for centuries upon centuries. Africa for example is and probably always will be where Euro and American nations were thousands of years ago. At some point isn't it up to the people to stop blaming and fucking do something about it?
