My mom was great when I was younger. I was a attached to my mom, way more than my father. I got near the teens and it was like they were ready to do things for themselves. Felt like I was put on the back burner a litltle bit. Maybe everyone gets weird as they age. I feel my parents live in an alternate reality.

Maybe we are a lot more like other mammals then we think. You watch any of the nature shows and one thing is common. They raise their young and then the parents and kids split ways. As humans we like to think we are more complex then that. In some ways obviously we are. But the primal part of the brain is still very much there and drives our thoughts and actions a lot more then most people think.

To be fair I put her through times, once I was 15 working as a Bouncer and once of the local gangster types tried it with me. I beat him down with a knuckle duster lol

So the gang were after me and I had to clear mum safe out the house while I rounded up my crew and went to square things

Left home 19 years old and never been back to live there.

I was a very wild in my youth, I got in a lot of trouble and put my parents through hell. So I have actually grown closer with my parents as I have gotten older. I appreciate the things they have done for me more. I will say though that I do agree that they start to get way more opinionated and stuck in there ways as they age though.

I love my mother. You get only one, so make the best of it. My mom is awesome though, for being 55 she tries to keep up with my brother and I. She's tries to keep up with current trends, and even tries to keep educating herself. Every few weeks or so she is reading medical articles or asking for my old college textbooks.

As I have gotten older she started acting as a friend rather than a parent.

She had back surgery a few weeks ago. So I'm at home taking care of her and cleaning up around their house. Thankfully I live 10min away from them, so I'm able to pop in and out

Dna, just imagine if your mother was negative about everything, constantly complained, and stressed you out within 5 minutes.

I love my mom too but I doubt you'd be much different from me if your mom was like mine.

I completely understand man. For now she's normal and ok. If she changes I'll feed her to the wolves lol
