"(CNN) — Iconic BMX biker Dave Mirra was found to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the same brain disease that has been diagnosed in a number of former professional football players, including Junior Seau and Ken Stabler. Mirra is the first extreme sport athlete to be diagnosed with the disease.

He was found dead, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, on February 4.


CTE can result in Alzheimer's disease-like symptoms, including memory loss, rage and mood swings."

Can only be diagnosed on someone once they have died.

All of those falls that fucked up his head. In there early years of his career,i watched him tons as in grew up being a BMX rider. His helmet back then was flimsy.

they don't know much about it... it cant be detected on living people yet. they suspect the numbers are through the roof for football and hockey players... They were talking about CTE on the radio ... ex NFL player basically said football isn't a sport humans should be playing.

If you have kids do you let them play these sports? There implying it there are high risk sports.

My son rides a bike, a motorized scooter and go kart..that kid knows better and he wears his helmet all the time...if i ever caught him without one, he knows the consequences. I'd rather have some sort of cushion on him than none. Kids these days have some big balls lol...they will fucking jump off a roof and land like a cat, all straight and shit:D

Helmet might prevent cracked skull but they don't do much for concussion as is shown in NFL. The brain still bounces around inside skull regardless of helmet.

Yes I know. It's a bit of a cushion but not preventing the slamming or bouncing of the brain.
