Mark Hunt Thinks UFC Knew Brock Lesnar Was Using Steroids and PEDs Before UFC 200

Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt never trusted the UFC after it allowed Brock Lesnar to compete at UFC 200 with only minimal steroid testing. There was always something suspicious when UFC was so eager to give Lesnar an exemption to the 4-month drug testing requirement. And with Lesnar testing positive for PCT drugs and UFC refusing to penalize him, Hunt is convinced now more than ever that UFC knew Lesnar was on steroids all along.

In an interview with The MMA Hour on July 25, 2016, Hunt went on an epic and obscenity-filled rant against UFC. Hunt suggested that UFC knew about Lesnar's use of anabolic steroids and performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). And rather than take steps to fight doping in MMA, UFC did everything it could to make it easier for a steroid user to step into the octagon.

“What upsets me about that is, I’m just thinking maybe they knew,” Hunt said. “Did they know about this? Is that why they’re not doing anything about it? Did they give this fucking fool an exemption for four months because they knew about this? Because surely if they knew about this, they don’t give a rat’s about any of us

Hunt accused the promotion of putting its concern for maximizing profit above its efforts to keep out athletes who use steroids and performance-enhancing drugs. UFC knew Lesnar would generate obscene amounts of revenue for the organization. And making money was more important than keeping the sport free of steroid users.

“We’ll let this fucking white piece of shit fucking stick needles in his ass and say, ‘oh, he’s going to take us all the way to the fucking bank.’ Let’s give him fucking millions of dollars and not worry about this motherfucker. You know what? Fuck that and fuck your shit company. Look at that for a contract. You can sue me on that, motherfuckers.”

Hunt's uncensored interview apparently hit a nerve with UFC executives. Hunt merely voiced what thousands of fans have already suspected about UFC's special treatment of Lesnar.

UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky was called on to rein in Hunt and to “address Hunt's concerns with Lesnar's potential anti-doping violation, as well as the results management process related to the case.”

Novitzky contacted Hunt to discuss his criticisms of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy. Specifically, Novitzky reportedly wanted to assure Hunt that the UFC had no advance knowledge that Lesnar was using any prohibited substance when it hired him.

Novitzky was desperately doing damage control for an anti-steroid program that was supposed to be the best in professional sports. Novitzky promised the UFC Anti-Doping Policy would be the gold standard for PED testing. It would be the model for all professional sports leagues to follow. Unfortunately, Novitzky's vision is quickly falling apart.

Defending the special treatment given to Lesnar seems like an impossible task even for Novitzky. If he attempts to defend the UFC's actions, it will be obvious that he has sold out and abandoned his principles in exchange for the high salary of his new job at UFC.
