It's a standard micro USB, right? It's pretty much standard on all phones except iPhones and the newest phones that have switched to USB-C.

I have an uprated plus too it charges faster with this set up but it's weird

Yeah, it can handle more current than the standard micro USB connector and charging is faster. The newest phones like my Nexus use USB C, which can supply even more current.
