Mark Wahlberg: Celebrities need to shut up about politics
    By Ryan Girdusky | November 30, 2016

During a luncheon to promote his new film Patriot’s Day, the actor was asked if he talked about politics. “No,” said the former rapper and that other celebrities shouldn’t either, reported the website Task and Purpose on Tuesday.

“A lot of celebrities did, do, and shouldn’t,” Wahlberg said to Task and Purpose, a website dedicated to veterans.

“You know, it just goes to show you that people aren’t listening to that anyway,” Wahlberg continued. “They might buy your CD or watch your movie, but you don’t put food on their table. You don’t pay their bills. A lot of Hollywood is living in a bubble. They’re pretty out of touch with the common person, the everyday guy out there providing for their family. Me, I’m very aware of the real world. I come from the real world, and I exist in the real world. And although I can navigate Hollywood and I love the business and the opportunities it’s afforded me, I also understand what it’s like not to have all that.”

Wahlberg should STFU. He almost killed a couple of guys, served 2months and didn't do jack to make it up to then even though he is a kajillionaire now. And he is worries about others speaking up based on their conscience? At least they are doing something.

Almost. Beat them up to within an inch of their lives. Two Oriental guys, Chinese or Vietnamese, can't remember. I think one guy lost his eyesight because of the beating. Wahlberg was a racist punk when he was younger. Ok Mark, you don't want to be political. Fine. But did you try to make it up to those guys, maybe find them and pay for their kids' college or whatever? No you didn't, you POS. And you have the gall to lecture others about doing something to help others or take a stand for a good cause or whatever?

Did they do anything at all to deserve it?

            Nope. Attempted robbery, I think.

Just to clarify, Wahlberg was the robber.

Well then I agree as a millionaire the least he could do is try and track them down and do something for them.

I'm not a MW fan and I'm not condoning his actions in the past, but I bet he has and will do more charitable work and contributions than anyone else on this board.

And he is correct about Hollywood shutting the fuck up.

Yeah, the issue is not whether he is more charitable than me, but his problems with the rest of Hollywood.

That's a pretty broad brush to use, Turbo. I am sure there are self serving celebrities, but is Shailene Woodley supporting the Standing Rock Sioux and getting arrested bad? How about DiCaprio using his fame to speak out about climate change and actually putting his money to support environmental causes? George Clooney on Sudanese refugees? Who is Wahlberg to pass judgment on them?

I took Wahlbergs comments to mean celebs telling people who to vote for etc..

Meaning it's easy for super rich celebs to tell people who to vote for because they live in a bubble.

I don't think he has any problem with celebs helping refugees or climate change.

I was talking more about the lip service celebs. The " vote for my candidate because I'm a cool celeb" crowd.

Maybe that's what he meant, but that's a pretty narrow interpretation of what's literally in the article.

Anyway, probably no point arguing about it.

                          I can agree with that.

I probably assumed too much. I'm all for celebs using their star power to bring awareness to issues. Clooney and Leonardo have done a lot, not discounting their work orntthers like them.

I would bet his friends and family from "back home" are Trump supporters and he's surrounded by Hillary Hollywood Twitter types. I get the feeling he was telling them to stfu.
