  • Where is the declaration of war? Only Congress can declare war. We are not at war with Syria.

We are being trigger happy fools again. Not saying Assad shouldn't be brought to justice, but you cannot do this.

    • I'm not a Rand Paul fan, but he's the only one making sense in Congress.

Settle down and read a bit more about the war powers act. What you are saying simply isn't true. I understand you're against using force in Syria, but that's not a good excuse to fabricate what the war powers act is or isn't.

        • We had no right to unilaterally commit an act of aggression against a sovereign nation. Syria posed zero threat to us. Is Trump going to come to Congress within the next 48 hours with a declaration of war? On what grounds? Has there been any discussion with other countries on how to deal with the chemical attack? Has there been a Security Council resolution? I absolutely reject the US acting unilaterally here. It is absurd, not to mention patently illegal.

          • Our country's history is replete with this kind of situation, where the US acts unilaterally in an extra-judicial fashion. Rules and laws only apply to other countries. How many countries have we bombed or invaded, or destabilized, since WWII? I have lost track. Evidently, we can choose to do as we please, anytime we want. This kind of behavior is precisely why everyone hates us, why we are perpetually the target of terrorists.

If anyone thinks this strike is going to solve anything, they are sadly mistaken. This is going to make things much much worse. You MUST build consensus on action in the Middle East. Going alone is sheer folly. We have learned nothing from Iraq, evidently.

            • What is mind boggling is whether the administration has even thought through what the next step is. Ok, bombing an air strip, done. Now what? And do we have ANY idea what the other players are going to do? What is Iran going to do? How about Hezbollah? And how about the Russians? All of them are supporters of the Syrian government. It is unlikely any of them necessarily supported the chemical attack, but it is mystifying what the strike really accomplishes. The only thing it will do is to draw the US into another war that it has no business getting into.

              Here's a good article:

              • I also think the timing with the meeting of the President of China was no coincidence. A little bit of a power play. "im meeting with the President of China while I send missiles into Syrian military base fuck you Russia"...

                        • It is obscene watching the talking heads on cable news wetting themselves at the war machine firing up. The generals and "experts" who were rooting for the Iraq war are back on TV now. These guys just love war, don't they! Fuckers haven't heard of a country they don't want to bomb.

Bernie and Rand Paul are the only two politicians I have heard so far being vocal against this misadventure.

yup. war is business for cable. ratings quadruple. so in a sense the cable networks want war. it's big bucks for them.
