A lot of people have been getting strange illnesses on cruises over the last few years. The thought that once seemed romantic to me, now seems creepy. However, there are a lot of great deals out there if you do your homework. Especially now!

it's that norwalk virus thingy.... a lot of them were getting sick. but the things is they seem like bang for the buck, especially if you don't know if you'll like the place you end up going...

dunno - just entertaining the thought...

      no personal experiences? :dunno:

Yeah but last week 70-80 people got sick aboard a Carnival cruise ship and it wasn't that Norwalk virus, as far as I know.

Sorry, no personal experiences. My gf's aunt and uncle go on 2 every year. They went on the Alaskan cruise this summer which is supposed to be one the most expensive and greatest cruises offered. They absolutley loved it. I haven't heard them complain about too many of the others either.

I have been on several cruises. We usually do a christmas cruise. This year we are taking one in January. It is an 8 day western carribean cruise. starting in ft. lauderdale and hitting ocho rios jamaica, grand caymen, cozumel and then back to ft. lauderdale. We are going on Royal Carribean. I have been on Carnivale and Norweigan. Norweigan was very nice but an older crowd. Carnival was WAY cheap but a young party crowd.

I love cruising. well worth the money. we always stay interior cabin to save an extra $500. you are never in the room anyway.

            hope this helps

              thanks :)

any fear of norwalk virus for you?

should we just look for cheap cruise line or does the choice in curise line effect our overall experience??

we saw royal carribean's Navigator of the Seas docked in miami last time we were down there and i can say that i was pretty damn impressed by the looks of that thing....

Cruise line definiately matters, and every cruise line specializes in certain routes. For example if you are interested in NYC to Bermuda the best line is Celebrity, but they do cost more. I think Carnival is the best for the Mexican ones. Just check out cruise reviews online.

I personally have been on 3 cruises and had a very good time. It just takes away stress from a vacation, ie you dont have to worry about were to sleep were to eat were to go for drinks.... its all there, all you need to do is have a good time. They even have gyms (with classes) and tracks so you can keep working out.

Oh and one more thing if you get sea sick easy stay away from the front of the boat and stick to the interior rooms.

I've heard nothing bad about Carnival cruises, Sana. My only personal experience was on Norwegian and it sucked...from the service to the food to the onboard activities, everything was dissapointing except for our room (we lucked out and got the handicapped room...much bigger than average, especially the bathroom). We went with another couple and they had a regular room (we booked together) and quite honestly, I don't see Bouncer fitting in the shower that they had.

We had some rough seas a few times but we found that drinking counteracted it. LOL

Late at night you can walk around the top of the ship and the sky is fantastic from out in the middle of the ocean. We found a spot at the top of the ship in the front to hang out at...there were slanted 4' glass walls which provided a break from the wind, and we brought blankets, pillows and rolled up there one night...great experience. :)

We want to try another cruise...it'll probably be Carnival or Disney if we bring our daughter. My neighbor has been on Disney a few times and loves it.

I won't be much help cuz I've never been on one, but have been looking into it recently too. Found some pretty decent prices for the cruise itself, the main cost would be flying to where the port is.
