  • Adderall vs. Ritalin

    Hey folks.

Im perscribed a low dose of Adderall, but my perscription got jacked last month because I switched health insurance.

Anyhow, my brother has some Ritalin that he doesnt use, and he is giving it to me.

Does anyone have any experience in these? I dont want to be all cracked out with the Ritty. I only use Adderall like 3 days out of the week. If any of you have used these, how would you compare them?

Depends on what you are using them for. ;) Ritz are nowhere as good as addys for what occaisionaly i use them for (err, i mean heard from friends), but i dont think that is what you are asking. sorry.

With the ritalin...not sure what you're using it for but be aware that there are long acting and short acting pills...if you just want it for a few hrs you don't want to use the once a day kind!

ADD/ADHD runs RAMPANT in my family--all of us the symptoms emerge from puberty.. and a few as toddlers, and we all have mixed diagnosis. In all the generations. LOL

Like, for me, Im hyperfocused. This has made it possible for me to be very successful, but like.. my energy and focus dips and wanes. As I have gotten older, it has gotten worse. Especially in the past couple of years. Like, think of how a manic depressive person is with thier emotions? Im like that with my focus, but to a lesser degree.

Im not going to mix the two tho. I was gonna switch to Ritty until I get my new Adderall scrip.

My brother, on the other hand has a mix of inattentiveness/hyperactivity.

My cousin Jessica is MAJORLY hyperactive. LOL it makes for good times.

But Im just using it for focus and concentration. My addy is the lowest dose, and I dont need it all the time.. Im skurred ritty will make me cracked out. LOL oh well, at least it will make for good lifts firts thing in the morning

Ritalin comes in 5mg or 10 mg tabs (higher I believe also). If the pills are 5's that should be ok for ya...just take one and give it an hour to kick in. It will peak about 2-3 hrs. after you initially take it, then it'll drop down. It's pretty short acting. If the 5 works well, then next time you can piggy back it at like 4 hr. intervals to help keep ya level.

My daughter used the 5's for a long time then upped to 10's which zoned her out, then we cut 5's to equal 7 1/2 which worked great for her. Now she's not on the once a day long acting ritalin (equals 20 mg but it's release is spaced out lasting for about 12 hrs.) and it's better for her...more even feeling and it doesn't supress her appetite like the 5's did. She just uses it on school days and occasionally on weekends or breaks if she has a large project she needs to focus on. She's ADHD but the hyper activity is lessening as she's approaching puberty.

Adderall is one of my favorite rec drugs of all time, but as far as using it for it's purpose the strength difference between addies and rits seems emmense .. but again this is coming from a different use of it.

                  BuddyBoy,

Man oh man oh man, it's a tough nut, go through the same thing myself, ADD here, some stuff just whacks me out and my mind races like a rat on a wheel and won't stop, and when that happens, well hell you know, so anytime I change up a supp or performance drug it's grit the teethe and find out what life will be like the next week.

Overall have faith that it is temporary and you can handle the ups and downs, with time you will become more comfortable with it.

Like this AM when I got up thoughts were popping into my head like popcorn, each about one minute in lenght, relationship, something about when I was ten, brother, friend, stuff at work, oh man it was pain, eventually taking some action got me focused.

Anyways, have a little faith you can handle even though in short term it's a biotch.

                  Thatsa Life.
