"I personally believe that whatever decrease we're seeing in either participation and or followership has MORE to do with societal changes than it does the physiques of the guys at the top. It's simply not fashionable to be massive. Skinny jeans are in and machismo is out. How you and I define masculinity is not how the newer generations are seeing it. To be honest, I really don't think it would matter if Mr O. looked like Phil or Lee Haney; the same general public that sees Cristiano Ronaldo's physique as being close to the physical ideal would view either as "gross" and hardly see the difference between the two. Would/do followers of the sport see the difference? Sure. But their opinion has little to do with "mainstream" opinion or the sport's consequent popularity. The 80s and part of the 90s were all about muscle. It's simply not that way anymore. Not only can you not get most kids off their asses to ride their bike or play outside but you have society telling the youth that masculinity and machismo is wrong. THAT is why 1. bodybuilding has become less popular and 2. there are less aspiring hardcore bodybuilders. In my opinion it has very little to do with the drugs; if society said bodybuilding was cool and the kids weren't socialized into being such pussies, you'd have people lining up willing to do whatever. Hell, you see women injecting God knows what into their asses and other parts of their bodies without thinking much about possible issues down the road. But that's because the youth has the Kardashians for idols. We had Stallone and Schwarzenegger. I think it's as simple as that really. Besides, PLENTY of the men's physique/classic physique guys abuse the hell out of drugs too; it's just less apparent because many don't have the genetics to be big. Of course, this is not ALL. That's my .02."

I actually think it's a good thing. I hate being part of something that is "mainstream". Think about the movie Pumping Iron, nobody knew what the fuck bodybuilding was except for the bodybuilders. We don't need the mainstream to make something great.

Evan is a good guy. I like his channel and his cooking Tips.. he should of been on the GI2 show longer, but anyways he is right in some perspective.
What generation did we grew up in? We grew up where we didn't have social media, smart phones etc... We had GI Joe's, He Man and I even had a Commando doll when I was a kid.. We wacthed action pack movies and that's how we reflected ourselves as those action figures!! Now you got this new type of geno..and shit like Jersey shore and Kardashian as Evan stated. Yea people idolize Ronaldo cause he is a big figure especially in the soccer world. Athletic looking, but to us he look skinny as hell, but to this new geno they wana look like him.
Who knows how long bodybuilding will last... such an expensive sport for peanuts..

Definitely a sissification of the world. I see it every where especially in NorCal. Bunch of fucken dandy's. People think I'm fucken nuts when I show up in the gym in a hoody and won't talk to anyone and actually walk out of the gym soaking wet. They think that's abnormal.
I like that though. Let's take bodybuilding back to what it was in pumping iron where people saw the guys and thought they were these weird outsiders. I want that! Call me crazy.
Don't want to be looked at by the "normal people" and welcomed into the community. Fuck your community!
If competitive bodybuilding dies than so be it. Won't change the fact that I'll still be busting my ass in the gym and eating my god damn chicken and oats till the end of days!

Strange that they think it's abnormal for them.. especially in California? Isn't NorCal like popular for crossfitters?Originally posted by Bouncer View PostDefinitely a sissification of the world.
