  • Puchased a smart watch!

I'm not big on gadgets, but I've been considering a smart watch for a while. Finally, took the plunge with a 25% off coupon on a gen 3 watch - the Fossil Q Explorist. Paid $175 for a regularly $250+ watch.

It's pretty cool. I get all text messages, emails etc. on the watch, so about 90% of the time, I don't need to pull the phone out of my pocket to see what the latest beep or buzz is about. I can reply to the messages pretty easily from the phone. Google assistant works on it too, so I can speak to the watch and get it to do stuff.

Still learning about the intricacies of Android Wear, but to me, it has reached the level of maturity that makes it a truly useful gadget vs. a finicky gimmick that ends up at the bottom of a sock drawer in a month of two.

This is what it looks like. I can download different watch faces to make it look like pretty much anything I want.

I always liked the look of the fossil Android Wear watches. I'm using a Samsung gear fit which still works well with my One Plus 3T but I could do more with it back when I had a Samsung phone. Still pretty convenient.

hahaha, I totally feel this. I have an Apple watch, but I can't bring myself to ever wear it anywhere but work. It's perfect for that, but otherwise I feel like a huge dork. Can't do it.

Yeah, that's the selling point for me. It looks pretty much like a normal watch. A square watch fails that test for me.

It's not the dork thing for me. For me it's more about being off any real functional use. Those watches can't do a single thing my phone already does.

The point for me is not for it to do more, but for it to supplement what the phone is doing. If it can help prevent me pulling my phone out of my pocket every 5 minutes, it's worth it. Plus, I've always worn watches, so it's not too much of a deviation going from an analog watch to something like this.

                  Soooooo

Android user that talk to iPhone users daily, how is the current video/pic message compatibility working? I've been on iPhone the past 2 years, but I'm looking at changing phone and watch to Samsung unless Apple really improves the screen and water protection this year. Apply may fuck things up with an iPhone 7s and a Pro 8 model or something. Sounds dumb and going over $700 for a phone is not something I want to do. However, the wife won't switch. We send a lot of pics and videos, well I receive a lot while at work. Android use to do dumb shit with messages. Video length cap and all of that. How is it today?

The watch you got is definitely a different look than an Apple Watch. And it is great for quickly reading a text, setting a timer, getting a calendar notification, etc. I use the stopwatch all the time for work. It's also great for driving while using maps.

                      I use a Shine 2.

Texts, calls, emails, etc....i get alerts through it.

It also tells time, steps tracker and sleeping as well.

I don't like wearing anything on my wrists, but this isn't so bad. I do have a few nice watches that I hardly wear.
