  • US scientists awarded Nobel in medicine for body clock insights

Three US scientists have won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm," otherwise known as our biological clock, the Nobel committee said.

Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young were awarded the prize for their research on how plants, humans and animals adapt their biological rhythm to synchronize with our planet's day and night cycle, as the earth rotates, in order to control their daily life.

    That's awsome, they deserve it.

problem I have is that the Nobel award has been tarnished over the years. they gave the award to some pretty horrible people. Henry Kissinger is the first that comes to mind. Absolute genius of a man but also behind a large part of Vietnam and it's massive coverups and lies that resulted in so many people dieing.

The Peace Prize is garbage. I stopped following that crap. Kissinger was a war criminal. And Shimon Peres got it too - guy was a butcher.

There have been egregious errors on the science side too, usually relating to blatant sexism where women have not been recognized, but overall, I think that the science Nobels have been scandal-free.

        What women weren't recognized?

I know Marie Curie is a multiple noble prize winner and that shit was over 100 years ago. No sexism there you feminist. :D

Rosalind Franklin for one. She was an X-Ray crystallographer who was the one that first determined DNA structure. She communicated her results to Watson and Crick who took them and used the information in their paper. I'm not saying Watson and Crick don't deserve their Nobels but Franklin should have been a co-winner. She was instead just treated as a microscope operator and not given the credit she deserved.

yea thats fucked up. i remember something like that on the Neil Degrasse Tyson version of cosmos. That woman who pointed out something to her superior and her superior was like "poor woman". Years later she was proven right. I believe it was about plate tectonics but i'm not positive.

              case in point..

Not that I don't applaud their efforts but this is doing absolutely nothing to remove any sort of nuclear threat around the globe.

It's like handing out an award to someone because they "want everyone to get along and be nice". Like yea the intention is good but it's not reality.
