  • Who has a way with words?

As part of my grad school application I need to:

Prepare a typed essay explaining why you would like to pursue a degree in your intended field of study and your qualifications for undertaking such professional study. (my field of study is accounting if it matters any)

I need some qualities that they'll be looking for as keywords...such as....motivated, dedicated, hard working, blah blah blah.

Just wondering if you guys can throw some stuff out there that I can hopefully adapt to myself and expand upon.

I'm not by any means asking for paragraphs or anything, just mainly some keywords that I can bs upon further :D

I feel that with a Masters in Accounting in conjuction with my CPA, I will be able to enter into business with a more in depth understanding of all the intricacies of the field. With all the current waves of accounting scandles which plague the past and current business environment, I feel it would benefit me immensely to be as versed in my specialty as possible prior to entering the corporate environment.

btw, i thought the trend lately was that accounting majors usually are almost "required" to get their masters to be even considered anymore? that's what my sister's been saying - she's at the u of illinois, and they have a 5 year accy program and you leave with your masters...?

look at rathe than putting down qualities, highlight qualifications

ie, factual things you have done consistently

people reading the apps hear those words all the time so almost falls on deaf ear, more interested in what you have done, more determining factor of what the future will be

think along the line of making jobs, and reaching goals, a little bigger than what they are, more actions the better

          also just a suggestion

          good luck

I suggest writing the essay from a personal stand point...throw in a story about why or how you got into accounting and what it means to you, versus some regurgitated keywords "I am a motivated female." Blah...and Bland. Throw in a twist, they hear the same things over and over and over, so discuss your obsession with keeping your checkbook straight, something...anything but the ordinary boring essay on "I want to be an accountant because accountants make the world go round."

I'm speaking from MA only...but before last December, to sit for the CPA exam you needed 120 credits (basically a bachelors), you passed the exam, then needed 3 yrs public experience...then you were a CPA.

They changed it so now you need 150 credits (so basically how else do you get that besides a masters ya know?) and you pass the exam, and you are a CPA, no experienced needed.
