I guess it's easy for me to say from behind my computer but I have a question. How the hell did these cops put themselves in such a bad situation. The guy was barricaded into a room with an AR or AK (all they said was semi auto rifle) yet all these cops just walked into the apartment and decided it would be a good idea to stand just on the other side of the door and have a chat with the guy.

Shouldn't they have tried to establish contact from a safe location over the phone or loud speaker? What about shooting some tear gas or some kind of knock out gas through the window to either force him out or put him to sleep? At least that way they could have forced him out of his safe space and into a position where they would have had the advantage and a much lower chance of getting injured.

It seems to me like these cops just sort of walked right into the house, (door was opened by the guys roommate) and just assumed he was harmless. The cop that was killed had just been on the force like 6 months. Very sad, but it's hard to believe they couldn't have taken better caution for their own safety.

Something else I find a little hard to believe since I've learned more about the gun world the last few months. Anyone that knows guns knows that pretty much any rifle round will easily penetrate police body armor. Doesn't even have to be armor piercing rounds. Any AR/AK round will do it. .223, .556, 7.62 etc.. Yet the cops are saying all 5 of the cops that got shot including the one that got killed were hit in places the vest didn't cover. I guess it's possible but I have a feeling they don't want the general public and criminals watching to know that police "bullet proof" vest will do nothing against a rifle round. I would bet money that some of those cops were indeed shot through their vests.

Hell, there are even light weight high velocity pisol rounds that can penetrate level 3a armor which is armor that is way stronger then what the police wear. A rifle round will punch through soft kevlar vests like a hot knife through butter. It's in the best interest of the police to make the general public believe that "bullet proof" vests are exactly as they sound. The truth is, they were only made to stop standard pistol rounds. They need to find a better light weight technology that can actually stop a rifle round traveling @ 3000-3300 fps.

the gunman Matthew Riehl, 37, an armed forces veteran who had exchanged angry tweets with the sheriff's office. Police earlier said he was known to authorities but did not have a record of arrests.

Riehl was known to law enforcement, Spurlock said. He attended law school at the University of Wyoming, where a spokesperson said the school has been investigating social media rants he made against the school for months.

A firearms instructor, Robert Butler, says Riehl took his rifle classes over the summer. "He didn't show any signs of being violent or unstable," Butler said. He says the weapons in photos Riehl posted on Facebook belonged to Riehl.

Riehl's Facebook page was filled with images associated with the alt-right. He also posted a video online where he announced he was running for Douglas County Sheriff as a Libertarian. The Libertarian Party of Colorado said it had no contact with him.

After watching the first video it honestly scares me even as a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment that this loony fuck was able to purchase weapons. There needs to be some kind of unbiased mental evaluation or something because anyone watching this guy for even 30 seconds can tell he is highly unstable. He's creepy in the same way joker from the dark knight is creepy. Jesus.
