Lip, why were the last 3 years the hottest ever in recorded history with 2018 mostly likely taking the crown from 2017? Is it due to a natural warming cycle, or is it from excess C02 in the air, or both?

If what they say is true,, (and its been proven scientist flub data to read what they want at times)..you will never admit that though I'm sure.. then its my opinion I would have to believe all the excess c02 has to have an effect.. ya put too much water in gas..the engine don't run right..its pretty simple really..

But it cant be proven that's causing hurricanes..fires..snow storms etc..

There's actually plenty of data from all the timeframes you have mentioned. There's tree ring data and ice core data that is incredibly accurate.

I actually agree with this. Due to the C02, we can prove that it's playing a role in the rise in temperature of the planet. That's a 2+2=4

Can we definitively say that its causing the fires and hurricanes, no probably not. But we can definitively say it's bleaching and killing the Coral reefs and melting some glaciers, for example. So by that metric its a real fucking problem we all need to come together on and solve, regardless of politics or what team you are on. Abortion or the war on drugs is a better political argument to have where we have our own "opinions", climate change is not, it's fact.

If you go to Antarctica, the ice sheets are miles thick. They consist of ice that has been laid down over thousands of years. What scientists can do is to drill into that ice with a hollow tube. As the tube bores down, it fills up with a column of ice. The drilling can go down a long way and retrieve ice that is literally thousands of years old.

The ice has air bubbles trapped in it. By analyzing the chemical composition of the air bubbles, scientists can make conclusions on the greenhouse gas concentrations. That in turn can be used to estimate temperature trends.

The science is pretty bulletproof and pretty well established.

The tree ring data can be used to corroborate the ice core data. High CO2 levels (and higher temperatures) trigger faster growth and this is seen in ring widths.

It's pretty fascinating, really. Climate science is this amazing intersection of so many fields -geology, oceanography, chemistry, biology, etc.

i been saying exactly that all along. people talking in absolutes when nobody can show me absolutes.

climate change is real and humans do contribute. but the contribution has been exaggerated for political reasons.

that said, taking care of our planet and investing in cleaner energy should be a no brainer.
