Arrrgggghhh! 24 hour Fitness is screwing me!; Need opinions!

So, I signed up about 3 weeks ago at the club by the GF's apartment..... I wanted to get an all-club membership so I could go to any club I wished as I travel and live closer to another club.
So, I buy a 3 year membership for $905 with the condition that the guy is going to get me another 12 months for free.

So, yeah I beat the guy up pretty good and worked out a great deal at around $19/ month for me. The guy was the Asst General Manager of the place, so I took him for his word that he would keep his promise. In hindsight, I should have made him sign something stating he would give me the other 12 months.

Anyways, I spoke with him about 2 weeks ago and he said he would go ahead and mail me the certificate for the 12 months as I was not going to be by that gym any time soon. Well, I call this morning to talk to him as it has not shown up, and they say he left the company about a week ago and they will not honor his promise!!! They say they do not do that sort of thing and I'm SOL. I pretty much lost my cool and managed to get their corporate number before I got myself fired at my job for yelling at someone on the phone.

So, yeah I fucked up by not pushing this guy to sign something or get me the Cert sooner.

With that said, what should I do now?

Should I threaten them with the BBB or just say I want my money back or what?

Any help is appreciated!

i'd just suck it up. you're only paying $25/month for an all club membership which is pretty damn good if you ask me. i pay $45/month for the powerhouse i go to and then another $5/month for ballys (this is after 2 years at like $1200).

Cancel that shit bro, 24hr suks ass! I worked out there for a couple yrs on & off....they are all talk and thats it!

It's just mainly the ethics of 24hr are shit, they should have stuck behind their word and given him what was promised....who's to say it won't happen again & again throught his 3yrs with them in regards to other things

Sana, I agree that even if I don't get the extra year, the deal I have is pretty good. However, to me it's all about the principal and getting the deal I signed up for.

I mean lets face it, I did walk in and drop a G on their asses!
They are a large corporation and can easily afford to give me the promised 4th year.

I just can't let this go! I spent like 2 hours with this guy getting the deal worked out (made one for my GF and her friend too) and will not just let them tell me that since our employee left you're screwed!

You can threaten them with the better business bureau but in my opinion they are just as worthless as the companies they are supposed to be protecting you from.

why are these gyms all so damn cheap? i don't think i've ever in my life walked into a gym that charges less than $40/month + $200 initiation fee to sign up.

i think you are out of luck. without anything in writing, i am doubtful that they will honor that hand shake agreement with the guy that is no longer there. sorry. :(

I would call the police and say you were sexually assulted in the locker room by one of the employees... set up a multi million dollar lawsuite and hopefully settle out of court for a couple hunderd thousand.. that should more than make up for the money you are out now.

$99 enrollment and $65month
I know it's expensive but definitely worth it :)

Well, I gave myself some time to cool down and tried calling the corporate office. The person they told me to call does not exist and after trying several different extensions I did get ahold of one nice lady who told me whom to call. She said this person was out till Friday, but to leave a message with them.

She also told me the Asst Manager was let go by 24 hour. She would not tell me why, but it was probably for making promises he could not keep!

Anyways, I'll post what happens when I resolve this.
