  • Hawaii officer who sent false missile alert believed attack imminent

A preliminary report released on Tuesday from the Federal Communications Commission details the events leading up to a false missile alert sent to mobile phones and television and radio broadcast stations in the state of Hawaii earlier this month. The report suggests that the employee who sent the alert did not hear a recording notifying staff that an announcement regarding an incoming missile was simply a test. Instead, the employee apparently thought it was the real thing, according to the FCC.

The employee did not agree to be interviewed by the FCC but instead issued a written statement to the federal commission. The letter said that, contrary to explanations made by Hawaii officials, the employee didn't issue an alert warning by fumbling through a software menu by accident. Instead, the employee meant to send the warning, believing the internal announcement about an inbound threat was real.

apparently during their training drill they literally use the term "this is not a drill". i guess their thinking is that it makes it more realistic.

but the problem is, when it's actually not a drill and it's the real deal and they say "this is not a drill".. who the fuck knows if it's a drill or not? lmfao. fuck sake.

We used to test the robbery alarms at my old job. Once we had a new manager who forgot to tell security we were doing our required test. Within 45 seconds of the first alarm being pulled, we were literally surrounded by plain-clothed and uniformed police officers with guns drawn. Basically a similar reaction but on a smaller scale. Some people are as dumb as rocks.
