  • Anyone had shoulder surgery?

Years of lifting weights and various Sports are starting to catch up with me, just when my back has gotten completely better... My shoulder is completely screwed. I have always had a little shoulder discomfort, but now I definitely messed something up. I can't even begin to guess what injury it is as both labrum and rotator cuff issues are presenting themselves.

I am still training, just avoiding movements that are the most painful and keeping it light. As far as MMA i cant grapple at all right now and can only do light striking. I have an appointment scheduled with an ortho shoulder specialist. I want to avoid surgery at all costs, but want it looked at so in case it really is bad I don't try rehabbing and making it worse.

My question is has anyone here had surgery on their shoulder or dealt with shoulder problems other ways? What kind of injury was it and what was the recovery time?

explain the pain. does it feel like a nerve impingement type deal? any kind of electrical zap type feelings down arm? muscle spasms?

or is it like an arthritis type ache etc?

    which movements hurt the most?

No but I've heard shoulder surgery is a bad one for pain.

P.S. stop all training for 1 week and take 800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours.

Doing any upper body at all involves shoulders so be smart.

Mobility issues and certain movements feel like a sharp knife is being stabbed into my shoulder. It's not just in one place though. Sort of in my anterior area during some movements and other times towards the medial region.

I can't touch my back towards my opposite shoulder, with my hand over same side, or from behind.

And any fly or bench movement is pain in both areas. Same if my arm is straight out parralel to floor in front of me or on the side and I rotate hands too far forward or backwards.

Be careful with ibuprofen...especially if you still want kids.

Studies out there show it is bad for men and kills fertility

Dude can't even move his arm. He needs strong anti inflammatory right now. Not to be worried about a 1 off study.

And let's forget about the 13 years of testosterone abuse and my atrophied testicles being huge sperm producers....screw the ibuprofen

I'm taking your advice about rest and nsaids bouncer. Seeing specialist next Monday. So I'll know more then. Until then it's legs and abs.

Do machines even with legs. Lifting a bunch of plates to put on leg press or squats is not something your injury needs right now.

Had my ortho appointment. Didn't do MRI yet but they are thinking slap tear and I have frozen shoulder. They are hoping its just severe inflamation though so they gave me a steroid injection and a list of stretches to improve mobility in the mean time. If I don't improve in 6 weeks it's MRI time and then exploring options from there. I told them I want to be conservative as possible so I'm taking it easy. They gave me a list of exercises they were ok with me doing and a list of your fucking crazy if you do them exercises. Hopefully it's just sever inflation though.

Yea hopefully it clears up with rest and meds. Definitely don't "push through" it. Could make it 10 times worse.
