The only reason I think people cling to their families past origins is because they’re either 1) first generation, child of immigrants who achieved something big and want to share how much hard work a parent had to do to get them to their successes or 2) grasping to their ancestry to set them apart from everyone else (like someone saying they’re 1/4 Italian and 1/4 German, etc.).

I’m a first generation myself but I hate saying I’m “Pakistani American” because Pakistanis are the worst.

my grandfather came from italy and wanted to be an American. he learned english and never spoke Italian again. thats how proud he was to be in this country. that way of thinking seems lost on everyone now. they want to leave their shithole, come here, and continue on acting as if they are still in their shithole.
