Visiting Pittsburgh in May... any cool things to see there?

I'll be accompanying my son to Pittsburgh in May, where he is presenting his research at a science competition. It's the first time I'll be in Pittsburgh - not sure how much time I'll have, but are there any cool attractions I should see while I am there? Chadd, any suggestions? Ive always heard that Pittsburgh cleaned up and reinvented itself after the steel era and I want to see what it looks like now.

My dad used to work in Pittsburgh in the steel plants there in the 50s, before he moved to Duluth, MN and then finally to Chicago. I asked him, but all the stuff he mentioned has probably been razed and rebuilt lol..

I've driven through the city twice. (once in 2012) don't get your hopes up. its not pretty. especially compared to what you're used to in the West. its a depressing looking city. maybe if you go with really low expectations it may give you a pleasant surprise. but if you go with the expectation that it's even 10% as nice as a city like Seattle, San Fran, Chicago, Boston, or New York you will want to jump off a bridge. lol.

you been to Philly scrum? well Pittsburgh makes Philly look like heaven. lol. it's not pretty brother thats for sure. it's a tiny city as well. smaller then Sacramento.
