Hmmm, not sure what you are referring to. McConnell sat on Merrick Garland's nomination because, well, he could. Garland was a centrist. McConnell got his guys Gorsuch and Kavanaugh in because the Dems don't have the votes to do anything about it. Both are considerably farther to the right than Garland was to the left. So, it seems like the Republicans are getting pretty much what they want as far as supreme Court justices are concerned. And if ill health forces Ruth Bader Ginsberg to leave, then McConnell will have another appointment to make. You think he's going to pick a centrist?

I think. Maybe I should say hope... he will pick one who will follow the Constitution as written... Not as some feel it should be changed too.Sent from my Pixel 2 using TapatalkOriginally posted by Scrumhalf View PostHmmm, not sure what you are referring to. I disagree with the "not changing" part.
Here's someone who knew a thing or two about writing the Constitution.
"But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

Your entitled to your opinion. Here's a quote.....if it changes it becomes something it isn't...then it will become what it wasnt meant to be...it will become distorted to the point of no return....then your foundation of which your republic was built upon crumbles and the republic crumbles then becomes history.....which will be forgotten.....Sent from my Pixel 2 using TapatalkOriginally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI disagree with the "not changing" part.

That's a doomsday scenario. We have had the Bill of Rights and 23 other amendments, all changes to the original document, and I think it is fair to say that the country is better off for them.
I guess I just don't fear change and the confidence in our ability to do it wisely as much as you do.

Maybe it's because I've seen what happens when people's rights are taken away..freedom..is a wonderful thing....don't think it can't or won't be taken by those that have the power to do so..for the so called....better for all......lolSent from my Pixel 2 using TapatalkOriginally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThat's a doomsday scenario. Scrum you act like "doomsday scenario's" as you put it are rare. They simply aren't. Very common as matter of fact. Riots, wars, toppled governments have happened countless times over and over throughout history. They are happening this very moment all over the world. They've happened in this very country many times caused by the very issues we're discussing.

We are talking about changes to the constitution. Pretty rare, pretty high bar to get over, and other than prohibition, I think we have done reasonably well so far.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostScrum you act like "doomsday scenario's" as you put it are rare. Actually it all wrapped into the whole tax issue and carbon tax bullshit...it's a means to their method to the end of America as we know it. This bat crazy ass woman has people who believe her....and she can't even explaine what she talks about.....darts....she's throwing darts. Progressives...Gore...Clinton's. Sanders Warren...they are the ones who see the big picture...the real goal....this whole thread shows how it's all tied together....LMAO.....unless ya just throw a dart at this....then that.... Then it's the big picture you miss...and it's exactly what they want.

You decision to call Ocasio-Cortez "bat crazy ass" is preventing you from seeing the truth in what she says. There is very little daylight between what she says and Sanders says.
Not saying you are doing it, but attacks on her in the press, not just from the ultra conservatives but also centrist Democrats, are based on fear of what she is not afraid to say. Because she is saying, fuck the lobbyists and the special interests that have been screwing the people. We're going to do it differently. And the fat cat old guard, Democrat and Republican, are getting called by their corporate paymasters and told to do a character assassination of this young upstart. She's young, she's Latina, she's a woman. What does she know. Put her in her place.
Don't fall for it. Don't keep looking for the small slipups or whatever that she may have in her enthusiasm. We need more politicians like her, not afraid to tell the lobbyists to go pound sand.
The America you love has a lot of great things, but it also has a long tradition of the corporatists and industrialists trying to run the show. And it has become particularly bad lately, especially with Citizens United. We need politicians who will truly work for the people, not be in the pockets of billionaires.

Spend some time on Twitter and you'll see the ugly overt stuff thrown her way, as well as the more subtle stuff. It's toxic. And a lot of it comes from legitimate people Donald Trump Jr., online personalities on the right, etc. Ageism comes from everywhere- Dem and Republican. She's too young, she needs to know her place. Age, gender, race. It's all there. I'm not making it up. Maybe as a minority myself, it's easier for me to see? Don't know. This isn't a case of inventing outrage.
Luckily, AOC is of an age group that knows their way around social media. She generally runs rings around these people and dunks on them at will. It's quite comical to watch.
