Bummed out

Yesterday one of my dogs grabbed my daughters arm and tried playing tug of war with her like her arm was a rope. The girls normally don't play outside with the dogs in the cold and I'm wondering if my dog thought the coat arm was actually a rope? Anyway, my daughter was crying and telling the dog to stop but she would not. My wife ran outside and yelled at the dog and the dog then stopped.

My daughter has some bruising on her arm and her coat has a little rip. I don't know if it was a territorial thing, I would think it is not because the girls are outside all the time with the dogs in the summer but since she would not release when my daughter started to cry I cannot rule it out.

My wife is really upset at the dog and we are worried about the dog doing something like this again to my daughter or one of her friends.

doesn't look like the dog was really trying to hurt her. looks like rough play. obviously that can't keep happening but i don't think the dog was thinking that it wanted to hurt her.

hard to tell bro. kids can do things when nobody is around. you may not know the whole story. she possibly could have been teasing the dog with her hand pulled inside her coat or something? i don't know. i tend to trust animals more then i do humans so i might be a little biased. little kids will cry over anything, maybe the dog didn't take it serious? my instinct says your daughter probably did something to provoke but I could be 100% wrong.

I think you might be right. The reason my daughter went outside in the fenced part of the yard was to play with the dogs. She had been playing in the snow in the front yard and side yard.

I was not there but I was told my dog was taking off my daughters gloves first which is her playing. My daughter had not played with the dog outside since it was cold and was not familiar with my daughters coat.

My wife wants to put my dog up for adoption because she does not trust the dog anymore and she is worried about getting sued if my dog does that to one of my daughter's friends. Maybe I'll try to convince her to let me work with the dog outside so she knows not to try to play with the girls. The girls hardly ever play outside when it's cold anyway. The only reason she was yesterday is because we had a blizzard and the snow was 16 inches deep, normally 6 inches is a lot of us in one snowfall.

I want to keep the dog but I keep thinking about how my dads dog mauled me but did not puncture my skin when I was a child. They did not get rid of the dog and a year later the dog took a little chunk out of my brothers cheek. I had a fear of dogs for a while after that and blamed my parents.

yea that's a tough one bro. I've had dogs my entire life and never had a single problem. they have always been my best friends. i have pics when i was months old laying with dogs on the floor. in all that time I've had rottweilers, mastiffs, boxer, pitbull etc.. and I have not once ever had an issue. i don't know if i'm just lucky or if i'm some kind of dog whisperer or what but you would think i would have had some kind of issue by now.

I spoke to my wife and convinced her it was just my dog being ignorant and playing too rough, not her being territorial. I promised her I would work with my dog and the girls so the dog knows gloves and coats are not an indicator of play.

I would find the dog another home immediately. No way would I risk the chance of injuring my child. My two-year-old could jump off the couch and do a flying elbow to my dog and he wouldn’t do anything. Now if someone knocks on my door or attempts to pull up our driveway he will freak out. But he has never shown any type of aggression towards my children. Why even chance something like that?

What is more important? Dog...or Kidd? Let me ask you this..if in the future. This dog did this again...but worse to your kid or another. She gets bit in the face and is scared for life......are you good with that?
