I was thinking about this the other night. I am a libertarian and as such I don't believe government has any right to anything except supporting a army, police force and judicial system. there should be a separation of government and economy basically. steroids represent an almost perfect example of a free market in action. you have the dealers and suppliers from all over the world. different brands, different qualities, different quantities, different prices. we as the customers, through word of mouth, can make or break a product. we must decide whether we want to spend less money on a mexican product or more on a human grade product. we search for better deals all the time and force companies to lower their prices in line with everyone else or face elimination. all this without the help from the government telling us what to do, what to buy and without taxing us to the moon. I find this very interesting because so many people in the world today believe government is necessary to "protect" us from companies and ourselves. the black market should be called the free market. The ultimate freedom that we so desparetly need is right in front of us but no one would look at it because of the illegality of them. Just some thoughts from me. :D

liberterian also, and excellent analysis
don't believe govt. needs to protect us from ourselves, yet protection from companies, is one of those neccessary constraints required to maintain balance and order, mainly falling under product safety, if the government does not devise and maintain standards ( judicial system ) products can maim and kill, so it's touchy
overall though I'm wid ya
good post

it actually shows another part of the capitalism mechanism-risk of purchase. normally we would say risk of purchase would be associated with the product itself but in our case the purchase of the drugs bring risks to us regarless of what we use. that affects how much we will pay for it and determines whether or not we purchase internationally or domestically.Originally posted by TheStromba
Very good analysis. When something is traded on the black market, it is the purest form of capitalism. The government is essentially out of the picture (except for enforcement of course)
