  • Torn Muscle

About six months ago while benching I felt a pull in my chest. I kept working though the pain and ended up tearing my pectoralis major. Docter thinks its going to take a couple of months to heal up. Has anyone ever had anything like this and how long it took to heal. I should have took it easy when it first happened but I was half way though my cycle and just thought I could tough it out.

Never had one myself but have known others that did it. It will take a good while for it to heal, probably a couple months as long as you dont aggravate it again.

How bad was it? Did you have bad bruising? Can you see the tear, like a gap in the muscle. If not and it was a minor tear you should be healed up in no time.

I would say its a minor tear. No bruising but you can see a small gap, it goes from just under the inner most part of my collar bone down about 3 inches but at the bottom of the gap is a knot. Im not sure why there is a knot there. Are muscles attached to bones?? I was wondering if its possible that maybe the muscle seprated from the bone and that is the knot. If that makes any sense.

muscle is attached to tendon which is attatched to the bone. hard to say what the knot is. i guess an MRI would tell you.

Yes technically, but not in the well known sense. I'm not saying Bouncer is wrong, but research aponeurosis and see if that sounds more or less like what is effected.

Yep, partially tore my left pec a few years ago on the flat bench, in the second set.

your past the first stage of healing now. You need to re-educate the muscle. Slow deliberate reps, nice and smooth, lighter weight but constant.

No jerking around or fast movements for about four months and then rarely, learn to train it a different way. Whe I did mine I waited a few weeks and then one plate a side for a few and then two slow but none rest pause and my pecs actually grew more than before.now as good as ever with a slight notch there

Yeah it does hurt still without the pain pills. I think I am going to just do cardio for another week.

dont put a time frame on it. if it is still hurting then you dont need to be thinking about lifting. if you rush it you may make it worse and then you will really have a problem.
